Yesterday we had a surprise visit from Mrs. Silver who was our Mystery Reader. Our first grade class was very lucky, as Mrs. Silver chose a couple books with very important lessons in them. The first story she shared with us was called The Gift of Nothing. In this book we learned how a friend wants to get another friend a very special gift, but unfortunately his friend has everything. So the friend decides to get him NOTHING. Ask your first grader what this means and how this gift of nothing was indeed a very special gift!
The second book Mrs. Silver shared was The Giving Tree. In this book we continued to talk about the theme of gift giving and what it meant in this story. Another idea we discussed was friendship.
Thank you Mrs. Silver for surprising our class as a guest reader and for putting so much thought into what you shared! We loved it!!
